BALLROOM BASIX is a non-competitive, arts-in-education initiative committed to the transformation of students’ social and fitness skills through the fun-filled ballroom and Latin dance experience. By consistently reinforcing the etiquette and manners inherent in partner dancing, our program instills self-worth, physical well-being and cooperation among the children it serves, while simultaneously instructing them in the diverse origins of the dances: historically, geographically and multi-culturally.
Arts Education Programming:
BALLROOM BASIX is an eight week, sixteen session program in which students learn ballroom and Latin dances including FOX TROT, MERENGUE, TANGO, RUMBA, SWING, and WALTZ. The residency is conducted twice a week (either during gym or academic class time) for two months, followed by an in-school and after-school culminating activity, for a total of eighteen classes.
