The Bronx Museum of the Arts is a contemporary art museum that connects diverse audiences to the urban experience through its permanent collection, special exhibitions, and education programs. Reflecting the borough’s dynamic communities, the Museum is the crossroad where artists, local residents, national and international visitors meet. The Bronx Museum Permanent Collection is composed of over 600 artworks encompassing all media, and assembled under a policy that reflects the institution’s commitment to its surrounding communities and audiences. Our collection focused on works by contemporary artists of African, Asian, and Latin American descent of all media including works by artists with a direct connection with the Bronx.
Arts Education Programming:
The Education Department at the Bronx Museum of the Arts is a catalyst for ideas and dialogue by providing an open forum for discussion and experimentation. We promote engaging and transformational art experiences with the goal of connecting the viewer’s personal experience to relevant areas in contemporary culture. The Education Department works closely with teachers and students grades K through 12 to provide quality art based programs that enhance core curriculum. The student’s experience is the epicenter of our programs whether at the Museum with guided tours, at the schools with our partnerships or with our extracurricular teen programs. All curriculums support Common Core Learning Standards, the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts, and State Learning Standards for the Arts.
